In response to just the last paragraph of 'Differences in the "1"', it is obvious that the author never fired up Word 2004 (Mac). The 3rd, 4th, and 5th fonts listed in the pulldown are: American Typewriter American Typewriter Condensed American Typewriter Light This font *does* share the characteristics with the "1" in the document.
I'm sure various "defects" can be realized by running a bitmap representation of the document through a lossful compression algorithm, but I lack the time to play with it.
The report does not so much state that the documents are real as that the production methods used to create the documents are consistant with the possibility that they are real.
I haven't been following the CBS story very closely. I know there were admissions that the memos may not be real. However, if you think it might help, drop CBS news an email with the URL.
