Why me?

So if you know that amending claims is a bad idea (yeah, stupid Supreme Court, make our life harder, go you). And you know that inventors are clueless, and you're hired to fix problems created by inventors... why in holy hell would you cancel a claim, just to insert the IDENTICAL BLOODY CLAIM two lines later? It's this type of stuff that makes me think I desperately need a new secretary. I asked my secretary to review the inventor's comments and amendments, and put them into proper format. The woman simply does not think. I must get competent help. I should not be playing with stupid formatting at 2 in the morning. Grouch...

Of course, this weekend is my Mother's birthday. What do you buy a woman who not only has everything, but has enough money to buy anything she fancies? I've ordered flowers (hawaiian, very pretty). But I have no other ideas. Suggestions? Anyone?

Oh yeah, and Father's day is coming too. Another one of those impossible-to-shop-for people in my life.

This might be more fun if I had more time, and energy to shop. But I'm working at 2 a.m. for a very good reason. I have tons of projects due in about 10 days. Not to mention a new client, who insists on meeting Friday night. Good thing I don't have a life.

How about day spa packages for your mom? Does she do that sort of thing?

I know what you mean about shopping for dad. I never see mine, so I'm going to visit this weekend. That's kind of his present. :)

That's nice, hanging out with them as a present. We will do that on Sunday as well. :)

The day spa thing probably wouldn't work. She goes to massages, and a cosmetologist, and she's very weirdly picky about this stuff (she's been going to the same hair dresser for 15 years... ) But something indulgent like that might work. Now if I only had time to actually go shopping...

We were sorry not to see you last night at Coffee Society, though, it was fun to watch Andrew wander around. (:

I like [livejournal.com profile] soof's idea about a day spa package for your mom. I've also had luck with concert tickets and the like for both my mom and dad. I often find that The Mountain Winery has acts my parents would enjoy (this year, though, there don't seem to be as many that my parents would enjoy, though who knows, maybe yours would). I suppose one could also try Ticketmaster to see what other acts are coming to town.

Good luck with the gift buying and with work!

Ooh, that's a good idea. I'll have to think about concerts. Probably a better idea for my Dad than my Mom, though. Yeah, I'll definitely take a look.

Well, shesshhh

We got them a grandchild last year and that went over well. We could get them another one?

My recollection was that you had to preorder that rather fair in advance..;)

Yeah, the pre-order schedule is vicious.

Gifts for the resourced

My perception is that your parents are both fairly practical and pragmatic people. So get them something that isn't - a hot air balloon ride, chauffered wine tasting jaunt, private dance lessons (borderline), etc. - something wholly impractical but likely to provide a fond memory in the doing.

$.02 and good luck,

Tox

Good thought. I'll have to come up with something. But you're right, impractical is probably the way to go.

I now realize I should've posted this a month ago... and then probably I could've actually done something about it. Given that it's this Sunday... well, we'll see.
