I'm sure at least one of you can recommend a CD ripping software that works on Windows. Right? Because I just realized that Books-on-Tape are wonderful, except that I own neither a working portable tape player nor a working portable CD player. On the other hand, MP3s are portable, and there is this Treo 650 that claims to play them & lives in my pocket.

If it's an Ipod, use

Itunes; it's good software for ripping even if it isn't an Ipod.

If not that, there's a Windows Media Player that does a good job.

Exact Audio Copy to rip, LAME to encode - a little fiddly to set up the first time, but is what I have used for about 120 cds.

Or itunes.

Definitely iTunes (for Windows). Easy, free, and nice Mac interface.

I use jetAudio, but mostly because it's simple and great for OGG files, which are smaller files and better sound quality than MP3s, but you have to make sure your player can handle them.

The Treo 650 does work pretty well to play MP3s, but I've found that the volume doesn't go that loud (for say, in a car) & the sound doesn't go through my bluetooth ear-piece. I'm dubious about headphones working in general with it, but I've not experimented.

Thanks for the info. I haven't played with it yet for spoken word, but I thought the range was pretty mediocre for music.

I don't do illegal music. Given my profession, I really can't. I just want a legal copy of my legally purchased CD.

Thanks. That's easy enough.
