Cleaning...

I've always been a proponent of hiring others to do the work you don't want to do. Occasionally, I decide that it's not financially worth it... so I cancel the cleaners, and we try to maintain the house ourselves. After about 3 months, I just had the cleaners out again. In an hour and a half, they scrubbed the house. There is still plenty to do, but it seems much more manageable now that the base level cleanliness is so much higher. I firmly believe that many a marriage & relationship could be saved if the issue of who cleans up after whom were eliminated.

I'm looking forward to messing up my nice clean house tomorrow with guests.

I agree wholeheartedly. So many domestic irritations can be avoided with the regular hiring of cleaners.
[which reminds me that I should see about getting the cleaners through before the baggage finally arrives...]

My only guilt point about it now is trying to find a company that's owned by the people that work for it, and makes an effort to use ecologically friendly cleaning products, having spent a summer working as a housecleaner.

We've never had cleaning help, but I think it would be *so* worth it. Unfortunately, we need to declutter our place to the point where outside cleaning help would be meaningful. I may be asking you for references in a few months.

FWIW, I've found it worthwhile to just have somebody in to deal with the kitchen and the bathroom[s], and run a vaccuum over the carpet, even if they don't actually get into the clutter. It always feels just a touch less cluttered to me when there's less dirt.

Don't wait until everything is clean. Our house is always messy too, and just the fact that they stack everything and scrub the kitchen and bathrooms is worth it.

Happy to help mess; I now understand why you didn't bite at the offer to clean beforehand..;)
